What to Bring on Exam Day

The last thing you want is to show up on test day unprepared. Having everything you need ahead of time isn’t just helpful, it’s essential. Here’s a breakdown of what to bring (and what to leave at home) so your experience at the IELTS Exam Center in Dubai goes off without a hitch.

Valid ID Document (Must have)

First and foremost, bring the same identification document you used when registering, your valid passport or Emirates ID. No student IDs, no driver’s licenses. If the ID doesn’t match what’s on your application, you won’t be allowed to test. No exceptions.

Admission Ticket/Confirmation (if provided)

While printing your email isn’t mandatory, having it either on paper or on your phone can be a smart move. It’s useful in case you need to confirm your booking details or test taker number on the spot.

Photographs

Good news is you don’t need to bring passport photos. Exam center will take your photo on-site on exam day, and that image will be used for official purposes, including your Test Report Form.

Stationery

If you’re taking the pape based IELTS exam, make sure to pack the essentials, standard HB pencils, a good eraser, and pens. Leave the mechanical pencils and highlighters at home, they’re not allowed on the answer sheets. For computer delivered exams, all writing materials will be provided, but carrying a pencil just in case doesn’t hurt.

Water

Water is allowed, but only if it’s in a transparent, label free bottle. No snacks, coffee, or energy drinks on the desk. Have a good meal beforehand to stay focused and comfortable throughout the 3 hour test.

Face Mask (Optional)

As for face masks, they’re currently optional at most UAE test centers. Hand sanitizers and spaced seating are still in place for safety, but masks are entirely your call unless otherwise stated by the test center.

Appropriate Clothing

Dress smart and comfortable. You’ll be seated for hours, so bring a light sweater or jacket in case the room runs cold. And remember, a photo will be taken for your official records, so dress neatly and respectfully.

Glasses or Earplugs

If you wear prescription glasses, bring them, but leave the case outside. Earplugs are generally not allowed, though most centers offer noise reducing foam plugs upon request. If you’re doing the computer based test, high quality headphones will be provided for the Listening section.

Medication

For those with medical needs, like inhalers or prescribed medication, it’s best to inform the test center in advance. These items should be in clear bags, and you’ll need permission to access them during the exam. Transparency is key, literally and figuratively.

DO NOT bring these into the exam room

Travel light. That’s the golden rule on test day. Bringing extra items, especially the wrong ones can get you disqualified.

No phones, no smartwatches, no books, no notes. Even your keys and wallet must be stored away.
Before you enter the IELTS test center in Dubai, you’ll be asked to empty your pockets completely.
All electronic devices, wearable tech, bags, and study material must be left in a secure locker or designated storage area provided by the test center.
