How Long Are OET Scores Valid?

OET scores remain valid for 2 years from the test date. If you’re applying for registration or immigration and your OET score for Dubai or another country expires, you’ll need to retake the exam. For career-minded professionals, staying current ensures your application stays competitive.

How OET Scoring Works?

The Occupational English Test measures your performance across four key modules, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each is scored on a scale from 0 to 500 in 10-point increments. Rather than giving an overall band score, OET provides individual scores for each sub-test,

Grade A (450-500) Shows near-native fluency. You handle complex healthcare discussions with ease and make very few errors.
Grade B (350-440) The standard most institutions demand. You communicate clearly with patients and peers, using correct medical language and tone.
Grade C+ (300-340) A transitional grade. You can follow typical healthcare dialogues and manage most tasks with some occasional lapses.
Grade C (200-290) Reflects basic workplace communication ability, but with frequent errors that can impact safety and clarity.
Grade D (100-190) Indicates limited English control. You might struggle in fast-paced or high-stakes medical scenarios.
Grade E (0-90) Very limited proficiency, suitable only for basic, familiar interactions. Not accepted for professional registration.

What Score Do You Need to Pass?

OET doesn’t have a universal “pass” mark, requirements vary by country and organization. However, most healthcare regulatory bodies require a minimum of Grade B (350+) in all four sub-tests.

Here’s what some key institutions expect

Most medical & nursing boards (UK, Australia, USA) require B’s across all sections.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) UK allows a C+ (300–340) in Writing if you score B in the other three sections.
Some authorities permit “clubbed scores” (combining results from two sittings) under strict conditions.
